This Catholic Life: How Catholic Media Can Join the Podcasting Revolution
Everyone seems to have a podcast these days. Learn why podcasts have taken off in the U.S. and the steps Catholic media outlets can take to start their own podcast presence. See how the U.S. bishops and one national Catholic paper are using various forms of podcasts and the benefits they are seeing.
Don Clemmer is managing editor of Our Sunday Visitor Newsweekly, the national Catholic newspaper based in Huntington, Indiana. He previously served in the media relations office of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, assisting with the Conference’s efforts around the 2013 papal transition, the 2015 synod and the visit of Pope Francis to the United States. In his role at OSV, he is responsible for generating content ideas and assigning stories for the Newsweekly. He also writes for print and the web, including content with an audio component. He currently writes, produces and narrates the podcast “Searching for the Joy of Love,” which unpacks the teaching and gifts of Pope Francis’ exhortation on the family, Amoris Laetitia.
Matt Palmer is the social media strategist for the U.S. Bishops Conference and executed the social media efforts surrounding Pope Francis’ visit in 2015. That campaign resulted in a Global PR Week Award and a Sabre Innovation Award. Eight years ago, Matt was an NFL and Major League Baseball reporter, but decided to move to the Catholic media world to try something new.
He worked for the Catholic Review in Baltimore for five years and received several Catholic Press Association Awards for blogging and reporting on Millennials. He and his wife Cassandra have two children, Annie and Liam, and they live in Baltimore where they are members of Our Lady of Victory parish.
