A-10 | 305 | The Ministry of Healthy Boundaries

Room 305
Speaker: Andi Grandy LPC, LLMFT

When our model of loving others literally gave up his life for us it can be hard to know when to set limits in our own service. We joyfully answer a call to service but end up feeling depleted and resentful later. We avoid people or situations out of fear of being asked to give beyond our means. We are so busy in our ministries that our families, those we love most, feel neglected. If you struggle to find balance in ministry and healthy self-care this session is for you. Come learn why boundaries are important and difficult, how to communicate them effectively, and reflectively examine how you can learn to love yourself as you love your neighbor.

A-12 | 107 | Natural Family Planning: What it Actually Is

Room 107
Speaker: Julie Cook

When you hear the term “Natural Family Planning,” what comes to mind? The Rhythm Method? Confusion? The punch line of a joke? Maybe you’ve heard about the benefits of NFP, but they sound too good to be true. Because honestly, how can there be a 99% effective, all-natural alternative to birth control that’s church-approved? How can NFP users have only a 3-5% divorce rate, compared to 30-50% for everyone else? And most importantly, why don’t most doctors recommend NFP? These are great questions, and they deserve answers before promoting NFP to engaged and married couples. Get these answers – and more – at this workshop, which will prepare you to confidently share the good news of NFP to those around you.

A-13 | 105 | The Wisdom Literature: Profound and Practical Truths

The five Old Testament Wisdom books – Proverbs, Sirach, Job, Ecclesiastes, and Wisdom of Solomon – are a wonderful resource for living an authentic Christian life though are rarely used as a catechetical tool. This workshop is an introduction to this biblical genre and will provide practical ways of integrating the insights of these books into a catechetical program.

A-14 | 114 | History of the Gifts from God in the Building of the Kingdom of God

Room 114
Speaker: Annette Witte

From the beginning of time God created with a planned order, as if preparing the world like a great and beautiful banquet. The guests invited to the banquet were human beings. They too were designed as gifts to one another. When humanity became aware of the gifts of the world around them, they asked, “Who has made all of this for us?” God responded by entering into a covenant relationship with humanity and in time, gave us the greatest gift, the gift of himself in the person of his Son, Jesus to show us the way back to God. Just as all elements of Creation play a particular role in the kingdom, so do each of us. Come and see how the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd presents to children and adults, how God calls each one of us to recognize our own unique giftedness and offer ourselves in service to help build God’s kingdom until the time when God will be all in all at the Parousia.
