MACC 1 – PARTNERING WITH PARENTS

1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

Dr. Patricia McCormack, IHM

Mutual respect and open communication between parents and teachers is vital for the positive, whole-person development of children. Respectful assertiveness is also characteristic of disciples of Jesus. WITH (wisdom, initiative, truth, hope) suggests a formula for a positive partnership. Teacher goals include: Adopt a Pro-Active Perspective; Safeguard Personal Boundaries; “Read” and “Feed” Parent Hungers; Speak the truth in love; Demonstrate an “A Plus” Approach; Facilitate Hope.

MACC 114 – TELL ME WHY…? – UNDERSTANDING WHAT WE BELIEVE

1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

Fr. Tony Ricard

Catholic belief is succinctly expressed in the profession of faith or credo called the Nicene Creed. From “I believe in God” to believing in this “One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church” and looking forward to “the life of the world to come”, Roman Catholics believe a lot of stuff. Some of it is easy to understand and some of it can be confusing. This interactive workshop will deal with some of the major questions of Faith. It will also allow participants to ask questions about faith, hope and love. Come prepared to say to Father Tony, “Tell Me Why…..?”

MACC 3 – CATEQUESIS: GRACIA PARA CRECER EN LA MISERICORDIA DE JESUS

1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

Dr. Timothy Matovina

MACC 2 – PARKING LOT EVANGELIZATION

11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Is it your experience that parent-chauffeurs occupy the parking lot while their children attend religious education classes or other events? Why not invite your taxi-community inside for refreshment and an easy-on-the-nerves evangelization session? Offer mini-sessions related to child-rearing issues, character development, and family spirituality. Catechetical Leaders have no need to add yet one more task to their already overloaded job description. Parent-facilitators are easy to train. This session will offer practical advice as well as free, ready-to-use resources.

MACC 1 – CREED AND COMMUNION

11:15 a.m. -12:15 a.m.

We take it for granted, but the fact is that God’s fatherhood is the single most revolutionary concept of the faith and the everlasting source of mercy. Dr. Hahn will discuss the pivotal statement of our faith, The Creed, the important role the development of the Creed in the formation of the early Church, and the role it plays in our world today.

Dr. Scott Hahn, an exceptionally popular speaker and teacher, Dr. Hahn has delivered numerous talks nationally and internationally on a wide variety of topics related to Scripture and the Catholic faith. received his Bachelor of Arts degree with a triple-major in Theology, Philosophy and Economics from Grove City College, Pennsylvania, in 1979, his Masters of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1982, and his Ph.D. in Biblical Theology from Marquette University in 1995. Scott has ten years of youth and pastoral ministry experience in Protestant congregations (in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Massachusetts, Kansas and Virginia) and is a former Professor of Theology at Chesapeake Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1982 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, Virginia. He entered the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, 1986.

MACC 202 – SAY SOMETHING… I AM GIVING UP ON YOU!

11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

At times, “Silence is Golden” is indeed quite true. But, there are times when our silence can truly become deadly. That is why the Lord said to St. Paul, “Do not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silent, for I am with you.” (Acts 18:9-10) Sometimes, we have to “Say Something….” The marginalized sectors of society are begging us to speak up. This workshop will strive to be a voice for our society’s voiceless. It will address the silent cries of the unborn, the underemployed, the LBGT community, the incarcerated, and many more. It is time for us to break the silence and “Say Something….”

Spirituality of St. Ignatius and Pope Francis

Pope Francis described himself as “a sinner who is looked upon by the Lord”.  His personal encounter with God changed his life and made him a witness of God’s merciful love.  As Pope Francis encouraged us to enhance our spiritual sensitivity, this session will introduce some ideas and prayers in Ignatian Spirituality, so that we can “Find God in All Things”.  In the moment by moment encounter with God, let His merciful love first fills us up, then further overflows to others and the world.

New Evangelization

The essence of the Church is evangelization. Only with evangelization, our community and our Church can continue to grow. This growth is not just viewed as increase of church members, but also is a growth of faith and spirituality of the community. Therefore, a community focusing on evangelization is always a healthy community.

Facing many challenges and obstacles in the contemporary world, how can we, as the Catholic Chinese Communities in the Bay Area, overcome these barriers and difficulties and how can we enkindle the fire of Evangelization in our communities, especially, to bring the Good News to Chinese immigrants?

The Lord will not abandon his people

From the biblical, historical perspective, and from stories of life experience, Bishop Ha will break open this theme, to show that God loves his people out of his own love for them, not because of any reasons. Embodiment Spirituality – Inner Awareness Through Movement

Promising insights into the human mind and body have arisen from disciplines and methods outside the Cartesian context of the mind-body problem, and there is an increasing recognition that our body is intimately connected with our psyche and spiritual life. In this workshop, we will concretely explore an embodied experience, so as to utilize our body potentials to reconnect our inner self.

MACC 3 – WHAT’S IN YOUR BACKPACK?

11:15 a.m.-12:15 a.m.

Adaptive catechesis requires that we have an assortment of instructional strategies and best practices available to successfully serve a wide variety of learners (e.g., autism, intellectual/ developmental delays, dyslexia, etc.). The ability to identify emotional and behavioral needs helps us to evaluate and implement effective responses that support the learner and promote inclusion. Come fill your “backpack” with practical tips and tools to be the best catechist you can be!
