Grand Rapids Parish Ministry & Catechetical Conference

B-21 | 213 | Young Adults as Leaders

Room 213
Speaker: Chris Baker

Would you be willing to challenge the current young adult ministry models? What if doing so meant you would end up engaging more young adults than ever before? What if doing so meant you could stop spending all your time and energy on young adult events that only draw a handful of young adults? What if doing so meant you could grow your attendance past the same handful of young adults who show up to everything you do? We will explore how using practical tools for encountering and accompanying young adults will shift the focus from an event-centered approach to an approach that empowers young adults for leadership. When young adults are engaged, empowered and equipped to discover their God-given strengths and shown how to awaken the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives, they will become the next generation of strong, Catholic, Spirit-filled leaders our parishes, cities, dioceses need them to be.

B-22 | 112 | Partnering with Parents for Faith Formation

Room 112
Speaker: John Graveline

Parents desire to pass their beliefs and values to their children and adolescents. The Catholic Church affirms their role as the first and most important teachers of faith and life. However, it’s often a challenge to get parents and parish working together to form young people’s faith. This session will take an honest look at the current situation, seek opportunities for dialogue and partnership, and look at tested and effective ways to share the joy of the Gospel in both the parish church and domestic church of the home.
