Michael Ruzicki serves as Editor and as the Media and Events Coordinator for Liturgy Training Publications and the Director of Music for Notre Dame de Chicago Parish. Before arriving at LTP, Michael served as a team member of the North American Forum on the Catechumenate and as a parish Pastoral Associate for Liturgy and at the Archdiocese of Baltimore as Coordinator of Adult and Sacramental Formation and the Director of the Archdiocesan Music Ministry. Michael is a graduate of The Catholic University of America (religion, art and theatre) and the Washington Theological Union (theological and pastoral studies) in Washington, DC and is the author of the “Guide for Training Initiation Ministers: An Introduction to the RCIA” (LTP, 2017).

Father John Hurley is a Paulist and was ordained priest in 1977. His formal evangelization ministry began in 1979 when he founded the Paulist Center for Catholic Evangelization in Portland, Oregon. His evangelization efforts went national as the former Executive Director for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat for Evangelization, the National Pastoral Life Center and the Department of Evangelization in the Archdiocese of Baltimore of Baltimore. After leaving the USCCB, he served for six years as consultant to the Bishops’ Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis. In May 2014, Fr. Hurley launched a new Paulist ministry, New Evangelization Strategies where he serves as a consultant to those parishes, dioceses and Catholic organizations who want to be more mission driven. He is a consultant to the San Jose Diocesan Office of Evangelization and adjunct faculty to the Academy of Church Leadership at Santa Clara University. He has spoken in over 120 US. dioceses and resides at historic Old St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco where he once served as pastor.

Using his own paintings and the stories behind them, Bro Mickey will share new ways of seeing Jesus and the saints in all their multi-cultural glory. With St. Kateri Tekakwitha as our inspiration in this hands-on workshop, we will explore ways in which saints befriend all youth, but especially those who feel lonely, marginalized, and bullied because of who they are or what they look like. Practical suggestions for creative activity and prayer such as coloring and writing, will be presented.

Brother Mickey McGrath, an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales, paints pictures and tells stories. In between the occasional layovers in his studio, Mickey keeps himself busy as a speaker and retreat director for audiences around the world. He also creates art for many of today’s leading Catholic publishers including World Library Publications, America Magazine, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, for whom he has designed posters for Catechetical Sunday, the Bishops’ Home Missions Appeal, and National Migration Week. His books have won awards from the Catholic Press Association, the Association of Catholic Publishers, and the Illumination Book Awards. Since 1987 Mickey has been a teacher and director at the Grunewald Guild, an ecumenical art community in Leavenworth, Washington. Mickey’s books, videos, and artwork are available through World Library Publications and his own website, http://bromickeymcgrath.com. Whatever the titles of his presentations and whatever type of audience, Mickey’s message, to quote St. Francis DeSales, is basically the same: “We pray best before beauty.”

Pope Francis tells us that “Joy is a pilgrim virtue…a gift that walks on the path of life” and that proclaiming joy “lengthens and widens that path.” (Homily, 5/10/13)

While the catechetical mission relies on the transmission of truth, effective methodologies, and clarity in doctrine, we cannot succeed without proclaiming joy (not to be confused with happiness). Julianne Stanz will explore 6 key necessities for sustaining our own joy, the keys to being joyful leaders and authentically spreading this joy to others. Just as hikers need essential resources in their backpacks in order to fully enjoy their pilgrim path, we must be sure that our catechist’s backpacks are filled with the spiritual necessities needed to proclaim a joy that lengthens and widens the pilgrim path for all those we serve.

 Julianne Stanz is the Director of New Evangelization for the Diocese of Green Bay, a consultant to the USCCB Committee on Catechesis and Evangelization, and adjunct faculty member of Silver Lake College of the Holy Family in Manitowoc.  Born in Ireland, Julianne has been profoundly influenced by her life there and by the witness of saints such as St. Patrick and St. Brigid. Santiago Fernández has been active in parish music ministry for the past 25 years.  He is currently Music Minister at St. Michal Parish in Pontiac, MI, where he directs both the Spanish and English choirs.  Santiago is a frequent speaker and workshop presenter at events and conferences around the country in the area of Hispanic Liturgical music.  His compositions are featured in many worship resources published by OCP.  Santiago won 3 Unity Awards in October 2006, for best international artist, CD and song.

Michael Hoyt tiene una extensa experiencia en el ministerio como Subdirector Diocesano de Pastoral Juvenil en Joliet, IL, como Director de Educación Religiosa y como maestro en las escuelas católicas. También sirvió a la iglesia por seis años en México, Brasil e Italia. Ha trabajado en casi todos los campos del ministerio parroquial, específicamente con familias, jóvenes, adolescentes y niños de culturas y lenguas diversas. Michael habla inglés y español fluentemente.

Michael tiene la Maestría en la Educación Secundaria de National-Louis University en Chicago y el Bachillerato en las Artes y Lenguas Extranjeras de DePaul University también en Chicago. Recibió formación teológica en el seminario y tiene más de 20 años de experiencia en el ministerio de la iglesia. Ahora sirve como Consejero Catequético para Our Sunday Visitor, Inc. y trabaja directamente con parroquias y diócesis para proporcionar soluciones y recursos concretos a su ministerio. Vive en Chicago con su esposa y dos hijos.

English Bio

Michael Hoyt has an extensive background in parish ministry, having served the church as the Assistant Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Joliet, as a Director of Religious Education and as a Catholic school teacher.  He also served the church for six years in Mexico, Brazil and Italy. He has worked in almost every field of parish ministry and specifically with families, young adults, teens and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds and even languages. Michael is fluent in English and Spanish.

Michael holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University in Chicago and a BA in Liberal Arts and Foreign Languages from DePaul University, Chicago.  He received Theology formation while in seminary and has over 20 years of experience in ministry to the church.  Currently, he serves as a Catechetical Consultant with Our Sunday Visitor, Inc. and he works directly with parishes and dioceses to provide concrete solutions and resources to their ministry. He lives in the Chicago area with his wife and 2 children.

Con la esperanza de recordar, celebrar y creer vamos al encuentro de nuestra comunidad para celebrar que Dios sigue continuamente invitándonos a colaborar en la formación como discípulos(as) de Jesucristo. Aún, sabiendo lo difícil de los tiempos presentes, busquemos en la pastoral de nuestras parroquias  trabajar en comunión en la Viña del Señor.  La Formación del discípulo(a) es importante. Asiste a este taller y encontraremos caminos para conocer elementos importantes de formación.

Lupita Vital es de Jalisco México.  Ella tiene una gran experiencia en el ramo de la Catequesis, ha trabajado en este ministerio por los últimos 25 años.  Las diócesis en las que ha servido son las de Tabasco, Guadalajara, y San José, en California.

Lupita tiene diplomas de la Escuela Catequística Diocesana y el Instituto Bíblico Católico de Guadalajara, Jalisco México.  Además obtuvo un Diploma en Teología de la Universidad de Notre Dame, Indiana y de la Escuela Jesuita de Teología en Berkeley, CA.  Tiene un Certificado en Especialización en la Vida Pastoral, de la Universidad de Loyola en New Orleans.

En el año 2005 obtuvo su Maestría en Catequesis de la Universidad de Santa Clara, en Santa Clara, CA.  En 2007, la Santa Sede la distinguió con la cruz Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice.

Actualmente es la Directora del Apostolado Hispano para la Diócesis de San Jose California. En el año 2014 le otorgaron el premio “Allan Figueroa Deck, SJ” por una sobresaliente contribución a la Teología Hispana y a la Formación en el Liderazgo ministerial del Instituto Hispano de Berkeley y la Universidad de Santa Clara.

Ella ha escrito y publicado en la Editorial de Ligouri  reflexiones llamadas Un Nuevo Comienzo para Adviento y Navidad y para Cuaresma y Pascua. Escribió el libro de la editorial Loyola Press Un Año Lleno de Gracia 2016.  Actualmente escribe reflexiones dominicales para  LPI Ciclos de Fe.

Te invito a una reflexión sobre nuestra relación con la naturaleza.  La platica toma bases de la Espiritualidad Franciscana y la encíclica: “Sobre el Cuidado de la Casa Común – “Laudato Si” del Papa Francisco.

Recordamos la historia de la Creación de Dios y la gran dignidad dada a cada una de sus creaturas: las especies animales, vegetales, el aire, el agua, los astros, etc.  Dios Padre, satisfecho de su trabajo creador, inyecta su omnipresencia en el universo elevando a cada creatura a un nivel superior de si mismo.  Celebramos la riqueza de experimentar una hermandad universal entre humanos, animales, plantas y los elementos de nuestro mundo.  Para ser fructífera, esta relación debe tener bases morales y éticas de respeto, desarrollo sostenible y corresponsabilidad.  Creemos en un futuro donde el león y el cordero pasean juntos en libertad y sin miedos.  Creemos en un mundo donde el humano se beneficia, convive y protege a su hermana naturaleza bajo principios espirituales de hermandad y ternura.  ¿Tu crees?

Ernesto Zamora, M. Div., es el capellán líder y coordinador de los servicios de duelo de un programa de hospicio donde sirve a pacientes y familias durante estas etapas cruciales de la vida.  Él tiene más de 15 años de servicio en estas ramas de apoyo y guía espiritual.  El señor Zamora también tiene experiencia ministerial en el sistema de las cárceles del condado, pastoral parroquial y en retiros y conferencias.  Al momento él enseña para la Universidad de Loyola Marymount en sus programas de extensión del Centro para la Religión y la Espiritualidad ofreciendo cursos en las diócesis de Las Vegas, Los Ángeles, Orange y San Bernardino.

El señor Zamora obtuvo su Maestría en Divinidad y su Certificado para el Ministerio de la Escuela Franciscana de Teología de la ciudad de Berkeley.  El magisterio y el ministerio a los sufrientes están al centro de los intereses ministeriales y espirituales de Ernesto Zamora.
