By Their Fruits: How Do We Measure Our Progress?

ROOM E

Category: Introduction to Stewardship

Presenter: Mila Glodava

Mila Glodava, currently serves as Director of Communications and Stewardship for St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Denver, CO (since August 2014). Mila held the same position for more than 25 years at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Centennial, Colorado, where she created both the offices of communications and stewardship. Together with the Rev. Andrew Kemberling, Mila wrote a book on stewardship entitled, “Making Stewardship a Way of Life: A Complete Guide for Catholic Parishes” Our Sunday Visitor (2009). Mila holds a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Paul University Manila, Philippines, and recently received a master’s degree in theology at Augustine Institute. Prior to coming to the United States in 1972, she taught English as a second language at a Catholic high school in Polillo, Quezon (Prelature of Infanta, Quezon, Philippines). Mila and her husband Mark are empty nesters in Arvada, Colorado. They have two children and three grandchildren.

By their Fruits
With more than 28 years of promoting stewardship as a way of life in two parishes, Mila Glodava has seen how a parish can be transformed as a spirit-filled, Christ-centered parish that responds to God’s call to discipleship. A parish fully committed to stewardship as a way of life will see fruits beyond money. As an outflow of stewardship as a way of life, the parish becomes a praying, welcoming, serving, giving, and celebrating parish. In the end, a stewardship parish is an evangelizing parish, heeding Christ’s call to “Go and Make Disciples.”

Andrew is a distinguished alumnus of the University of Arizona, Holy Cross Abbey and St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota.

The Spirituality of Money
Much can be said about giving a portion back to God in thanksgiving for what He has done; that portion is called the “tithe.” Gratitude of the heart instills the kind of humility where Jesus enters our heart. The living biblical truth of tithing asks us to put our money where our mouth is. We cannot just say we are grateful; we have to prove it. Our heart has to be in it or we will be no better than the Pharisees. Father Andrew Kemberling will teach about the rich biblical tradition about tithing and generosity that needs to be taught in our Church in a way that reconciles the Old and the New Testaments.
