Mary Ann Wiesinger has worked at the diocesan level for 10 years, serving directors of religious education and RCIA leaders, helping develop and sustain catechist certification programs, directing schools of formation, and working in evangelization. At every level, her interest in raising leaders and disciples has been at the forefront. Raised in El Paso, Texas, Mary Ann is bilingual and bi-cultural. Throughout her career, she has worked hard to provide the same level of excellence in both English and Spanish formation programs. She enjoys teaching in both languages and finds mentoring catechetical/pastoral ministers especially fulfilling. Mary Ann has given talks at diocesan catechetical in-services, parishes, and various apostolates and collaborated with Ascension Press and the Augustine Institute on instructional projects.

Patty Norris is the director of Religious Education at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Milford, Ohio. Involved in adult formation for many years, she specializes in the RCIA process as a speaker and seminar director for the Association for Catechumenal Ministries (ACM). As a speaker, consultant, and writer for ACM, she has served many dioceses in the United States and abroad. As a director of Religious Education, she is responsible for all adult formation. With her husband, Gary, she coordinates the RCIA track at the St. John Bosco Conference. They have 6 children and 11 grandchildren.

Dcn. Drake McCalister is the coordinator of the catechetical practicum for the Office of Catechetics at Franciscan University. In addition to his work at Franciscan, Dcn. Drake McCalister is the director of RCIA for Franciscan and oversees the EDGE youth group, along with writing and speaking. Previously, Dcn. Drake McCalister was a Pentecostal pastor in the Foursquare Church for 13 years (1991-2004), but after five years of study, prayer, and reluctance, he resigned his pastorate and brought his wife and three daughters home to the Catholic Church on December 12, 2004 (Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe). Dcn. Drake McCalister and his wife, Crystal, now have five daughters.

Joann Roa is the director of Adult Faith Formation for the Diocese of Brooklyn. She has an MA in theology and Christian ministry from Franciscan University of Steubenville. She has served as a director of Hispanic Ministry and a coordinator for RCIA and continues to have a love and a passion for sharing the faith with others. Joann has presented on various aspects of evangelization at conferences, parishes, and prayer groups throughout the country and internationally.

Dr. Chris Burgwald was born and raised in a small town in central Minnesota. While he was raised as a Catholic, he stopped practicing his faith in college until a “chance” encounter his junior year brought him back to the faith. The flame that was ignited then ultimately led him to doctoral studies in theology and an adult life spent deepening his own faith, sharing it with others, and equipping other Catholics to do the same. Chris and his wife, Germaine, and their five children live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Chris has served the Diocese of Sioux Falls as the director of Adult Discipleship and Evangelization since 2002.

Fr. Nathan Malavolti, TOR

The Chief Evangelization Officer at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Father Nathan Malavolti, TOR, guides the work of the Chapel Ministry Office, Priestly Discernment Program, Evangelization Office, Christian Outreach Office and the Catechetical Institute. Father Malavolti came to Franciscan University as vice president of Community Relations in August 2013, after serving eight years as a chemistry professor at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. He grew up in central Illinois and completed his PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1986. After working as a research chemist, predominantly in the pharmaceutical industry, he discerned a call to the priesthood and the Third Order Regular Franciscans and was ordained to the priesthood in 2005. Father Malavolti served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Franciscan University of Steubenville from 2007 until he joined the University’s administrative team in 2013.

Dr. John Bergsma is a professor of theology at Franciscan University and served as a Protestant pastor for four years before entering the Catholic Church in 2001. Dr. Bergsma holds a PhD in theology from the University of Notre Dame, where he specialized in the Old Testament and the Dead Sea Scrolls. He speaks regularly on Catholic radio and at conferences and parishes nationwide. He and his wife, Dawn, reside with their eight children in Steubenville. The author of several books, his latest is Stunned by Scripture: How the Bible Made Me Catholic from Our Sunday Visitor.

Gloria (“Gigi”) Zapiain has worked in catechetics on the parish and diocesan levels for over 25 years. She has served as a parish DRE and catechetical consultant for the Archdiocese of Washington and as diocesan director of Faith Formation for the Diocese of Fargo, North Dakota, and Bridgeport, Connecticut.  She holds an MA in religious studies and a pontifical catechetical diploma from the Notre Dame Institute.  She is currently director of the secretariat for Catechesis and Faith Formation for the Archdiocese of San Antonio, a board member for the Association for Catechumenal Ministry, and a board advisor for My Catholic Faith Delivered, an online catechetical platform.

Gary Norris has led RCIA teams for the past 25 years in the Archdiocese of Denver, the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. He studied theology and catechetics at the Maryvale Institute and has certification in RCIA from the St. John Bosco Conference. Gary is a currently the chairman of the Association of Catechumenal Ministry and serves ACM as a presenter for team training and catechist training. Gary works with his wife, Patty, together coordinating the St. John Bosco RCIA track for the past 10 years. They have 6 children and 11 grandchildren.

Ron Bolster is the former director of the Office of Catechetics at Franciscan University. He served the Diocese of Peoria before joining the catechetics faculty at Franciscan in 2004. He holds an MA in theology with catechetical certification from Franciscan and an undergraduate degree from Cornell University. He serves on the confirmation team for the parishes of the City of Steubenville and has experience in RCIA, the Neocatechumenal Way, and catechist training. He is co-author of Ascension Press’ Chosen: Your Journey to Confirmation program. Ron and his wife, Andrea, reside with their eight children in Steubenville.
