Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, at many universities, summertime can be a bit monotonous. The majority of students are gone, classes are limited, and
shifting vacation schedules slowly deflate the sense of community so prevalent during the academic year. We do not have that problem at Franciscan
University of Steubenville, where the power of the Holy Spirit continues
to set hearts on fire throughout the summer. To walk on campus during our conferences is to see the Holy Spirit at work. Whether you are here to deepen your understanding of the
Church and how to convey it to friends and family during our Defending
the Faith Conference, revitalize your spiritual life and ministry during
our St. John Bosco Conference, or let the Spirit heal and free you during
the Power and Purpose Conference, you will find Franciscan the perfect
location for reflection, fellowship, and worship.

Not only is Mass offered daily, but our campus features numerous
places to pray, including the Portiuncula Chapel, a replica of the ancient
chapel restored by St. Francis in Santa Maria degli Angeli, near Assisi.
Just behind the Portiuncula, in the tradition of St. Francis’ profound
love for the Blessed Mother, sits our Marian Grotto, where many of
our students, faculty, and staff like to reflect on the Blessed Mother’s
humility, poverty, and love, asking for her intercession.

Above all, I trust you will find the love of God and renewed hope
through your interactions with the many Franciscan students you will
encounter during your time here. In their smiles, in their prayers, and
in their excitement for your visit, you will encounter the Holy Spirit,
and all that he has planned for your life.
May God continue to bless you!

In Christ and St. Francis,

Father Sean O. Sheridan, TOR
