Film and Media Screening – “With This Light”

During her 70 years as a nun, Sister Maria Rosa Leggol helped over 87,000 Honduran children escape poverty and violence through an ecosystem of social, educational and entrepreneurial projects, inspiring an international network of supporters to expand her work. In the midst of civil wars, economic collapse and natural disasters, she continued her charge to help young people, such as Maria and Rosa, break familial cycles of poverty and violence to create lives of their own. “With This Light” poetically interweaves the compelling present-day stories of these teenagers with the epic life and noble actions of Sister Maria Rosa.

Plenary Panel: Moving from ‘Like Us’ to ‘Essential Viewing’

“Digitally-centric” has become the current buzz word trying to encapsulate what has become a paradigm shift in what’s happening not just in the media landscape, but in how humans interact with one another. Whether we’re in North America, Asia or almost any place in the world, digital impacts humans.

Some are saying having access to the digital world is as fundamental as having electricity. Yet, we have not adapted our Chancery and parish structures to meet the needs of today — to the detriment of our faith.

Learn what three major news organizations — American Press Institute, an Asian-based Catholic news agency, and DeSales Media in Brooklyn — and our own USCCB Public Affairs are doing in this changing communication landscape to be relevant to their audiences.

Panelists include Chieko Noguchi, Executive Director for the USCCB Office of Public Affairs; Kevin Loker, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Research at the American Press Institute; Dr. Peter Rachada Monthienvichienchai, SIGNIS Secretary General; and Vito Formica, Executive Director of News, Content & Development at DeSales Media Group. It will be moderated by Helen Osman, President of SIGNIS.
