- We rely on chaperones to keep youth participants safe and help the conference run smoothly. Chaperones should always know where their youth are at any point in the conference.
- Our chaperone to youth ratio is 1:5 of the same gender. Chaperones must be gender specific to accommodate the gender division in the dorms. Priests attending with a group are not included in the chaperone to youth ratio because they are housed separately from other participants. Peer leaders are also exempt from this ratio.
- Conference events are open only to registered participants, volunteers, and clergy. Due to our Responsible Ministry protocol, we cannot allow other guests to attend portions of the conference unless they are registered. The only exceptions to this policy are for publicized “open” events such as Come and See events and the closing Mass.
- Chaperones are not permitted to bring small children/infants to the conference, in an effort to ensure the experience and safety of our youth.
- We have a zero tolerance policy for alcohol and illegal drug use. Any participant found possessing or consuming alcohol or illegal drugs will be immediately asked to leave the conference and will not be able to attend for at least two years.
- Lights out for youth participants and peer leaders is midnight. Group leaders and chaperones are responsible for ensuring their youth are in their rooms by this time. Youth participants and peer leaders found out of their rooms after lights out will face consequences based on the situation. These include (but are not limited to) being sent home, being banned from future conferences, being reported to the appropriate legal authorities.
- All participants are expected to dress in keeping with our Catholic understanding of modesty as a means of protecting and highlighting each person’s inherent dignity. No spaghetti straps or clothes that show your undergarments or midriff are permitted. Helpful hint for length of shorts: With arms at your side, if your fingertips go past your shorts, they are too short!
- If you witness any youth or chaperone violating any policy in regard to Responsible Ministry or Steubenville Atlantic guidelines, you are required to report it immediately to a member of the conference staff.
Conference staff reserve the right to deny entrance to, or request the ejection of, any group or individual who does not comply with the regulations and policies of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth or of the Steubenville Atlantic Conference. In the event that an individual/group is denied entrance or is ejected for violating any rule or policy, no refund will be made.
