Joan Watson

Joan Watson is the Director of Faith Formation for the Diocese of Nashville. In addition to her work for the diocese, she is a popular speaker who has addressed a wide variety
of audiences, from local parishioners to members of the Roman Curia. Joan previously worked for Scott Hahn at the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology and for the Nashville Dominicans at Aquinas College. She received her bachelor’s degree in history from Christendom College and her master’s degree in theology from Franciscan University.
She is served on the National Advisory Council for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for four years. She is the associate editor and writes weekly for “Integrated Catholic Life” and hosts the weekly series “3 Minute Theology” on Facebook and YouTube.

Mary Ann Wiesinger

Mary Ann Wiesinger has worked at the diocesan level for 12 years in the San Francisco and Miami areas, serving as a Director of Religious Education and RCIA, as well as directing and teaching in catechist certification programs and lay formation schools. Through her varied experiences, she has focused her work on discovering ways to build trust, find common ground and keep centered on Christ, all essential to the mission of the Church. She has collaborated on instructional projects with publish-ers and universities such as Ascension Press, the University of Notre Dame and the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Currently, she is a content editor and speaker for the Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Catechetical Institute.

MARY ANN WIESINGER ha trabajado a nivel diocesano durante 12 años en las áreas de San Francisco y Miami, sirviendo como Directora de Educación Reli-giosa y RICA, así como dirigiendo y enseñando los programas de certificación de catequistas y escuelas de formación laica. A través de su variada experiencia ha centrado su trabajo para descubrir formas de generar confianza, encontrar puntos en común y mantenerse centrados en Cristo, todo lo esencial para la misión de la Iglesia. Hosffman Ospino, PhD

Dr. Hosffman Ospino is an Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Education at Boston College, School of Theology and Ministry where he is also Director of Graduate Programs in Hispanic Ministry. Dr. Ospino was the principal investigator for the National Study of Catholic Parishes with Hispanic Ministry (2014) and co-investigator for the National Survey of Catholic Schools Serving Hispanic Families (2015). He is currently advancing a national study on Latino Catholic vocations. He has authored/edited 13 books and dozens of essays. Dr. Ospino serves on the boards of several academic and professional organizations. He is a national consultant on questions related to catechesis, Catholic education, and ministry with Hispanic Catholics.

El Dr. Ospino fue el investigador principal del Estudio Nacional de Parroquias Católicas con el Ministerio Hispano (2014) y co-investigador de la Encuesta Nacional de Escuelas Católicas que sirven a las familias hispanas (2015). Actualmente está haciendo un estudio nacional sobre vocaciones católi-cas latinas. Es autor / editor de 13 libros y docenas de ensayos. El Dr. Ospino es miembro de los consejos de varias organizaciones académicas y profesionales. NAMI Georgia | Homefront Class for Veterans & Families

NAMI Homefront is a free, 6-session educational program for families, caregivers and friends of military service members and veterans with mental health conditions.

Based on the nationally recognized NAMI Family-to-Family program, NAMI Homefront is designed to address the unique needs of family, caregivers and friends of those who have served or are currently serving our country. The program is taught by trained family members of service members/veterans with mental health conditions.

NAMI Homefront teaches you how to:
Learn to care for yourself, including managing your stress
Support your family member with compassion
Identify and access federal, state and local services
Stay informed on the latest research and info on mental health, including post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression and substance use
Understand current treatments and evidence-based therapies
Navigate the challenges and impact on the entire family
Manage a crisis, solve problems and communicate effectively

 

NAMI Georgia | Intro to Behavioral Health Disorders and Addictive Diseases Course

Introduction to Behavioral Health Disorders and Addictive Diseases, IBHAD, is a 6-hour class designed to provide an overview of behavioral health and addictive diseases, mental health law, community resources, living in recovery and practical exercises.

Upon full completion of the course, all attendees will receive a Certificate of Completion from NAMI Georgia. Any clinicians (LPCs, LCSWs, or LMSWs) will also receive Continuing Education Credits.

Intro to Behavioral Health and Addictive Diseases Part 1
This session will provide a brief overview of public health and public safety statistics as it relates to primarily to mental illness.  It will also provide an overview of the behavioral health conditions that have often resulted in law enforcement interaction when elevated to crisis stage.  These conditions include Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This session will cover information on Suicide and Suicide prevention, Addictive Diseases, Co-occurring Disorders and available treatments, and the most common Developmental Disabilities including Autism.

This session will provide an overview of the array of services and supports that are available in the State of Georgia for individuals with Mental Illness, Developmental Disabilities, and Addictive Diseases.

This module covers the origin of CIT, and highlights CIT successes.

Introduction to Integration: The Faith-Based Community & Mental Health
This module will focus on the concept of the integration of psychology and religiosity/spirituality, the relationship between the two, and reducing stigma of mental illness.

Principles of De-escalation
Objectives of this lesson are to learn basic crisis de-escalation techniques, discern empathy vs. sympathy and discuss resources that can assist with immediate crisis and post crises.

Living in Recovery, an In Our Own Voice presentation
A presentation by someone who is living in recovery with mental illness and trained to facilitate the IOOV presentation.


3:30pm

Family Perspective
A presentation will be given by a family member who has a loved one with a mental illness or other brain disorder and how they often share similar experiences, includes family life prior to diagnosis, acceptance, treatment, coping skills, tips on communicating with individuals and family members, and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) support and available resources.

Father Dennis Dorner

Father Dennis Dorner Jr. was born and raised in Atlanta. Father Dorner received a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Loyola University, Chicago, and a Master of Divinity degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary, Chicago.  He was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory in 2013.  Father Dorner is founder of the Ardor Project, which has provided media based catechesis through vlogs and podcasts. He is a parochial vicar at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Atlanta.
